Parrot People

Parrot People

Meet the team of people who work with the Parrot.

Editorial

Dave Power

Dave and I met when working for a large publishing company in Leeds. We trained together (havoc in Perth) and collaborated on a project that earned the company a Plain English Award. Dave worked for the company for many years as a Technical Author and Editor, bringing many high profile, big budget projects to fruition. Dave has also used his many skills on proofreading projects for his own clients.

Now retired and living in Cyprus, it seems only fitting that the Parrot should use Dave's wealth of experience and skills to enhance some of the larger publications coming to the Parrot Cage. Apart from that, it will keep him out of mischief when not playing bowls and from getting under Angela's feet.

Like all of us here, he reads and is particularly partial to the odd zombie. He is also very musical in the guitar department.

Dave and Angela are big animal lovers and have given a great deal of their free time volunteering at the Paralimni Dog Pound. They have now adopted their own dogs, Eddie and Molly, and given them both a fabulous new home complete with private pool.

Cover Design

Sadie Butterworth-Jones

With a background in journalism and 9 years working in the production side of book publishing, Sadie is used to wearing quite a few different hats - from copywriting and proofreading, to typesetting, eBook creation and her personal favourite, cover design. Having worked on hundreds of books and journals, unsurprisingly she’s a self confessed bibliophile with a particular love of fiction, children’s literature and travel.

After working in Sheffield and then remotely around the world, Sadie is now back in her hometown of Lancaster, renovating her slowly crumbling house and sharing her home office with her husband and an incredibly lazy, adopted greyhound.

You can see some examples of her cover design work here: https://www.clippings.me/sadiejones

Ken Dawson - Creative Covers

Ken has worked as a professional Graphic Designer for 18 years and even longer as a writer and illustrator. He has great working relations with several publishing houses, including the Parrot, as well as dozens of independent authors - many of who return again and again for design work.

He's an open, friendly, and honest person, yet remains professional and courteous, especially when it concerns the prized work of others.  He has so far created covers for Tom Horn's 'The Chronicles of Vespia' series and you can view his work here: https://www.ccovers.co.uk/

Illustrators

Carl Jackson

Carl Jackson is from Chorley, Lancashire.

As well as an illustrator he is an Art teacher at a local High School where he also attended.

He has a Degree in Fine Art and is currently illustrating a children’s Maths adventure book. His pictures are all hand drawn which is how he loves to work, bright, colourful and exciting, which is perfect for children’s book illustrations.

“Wonderfully detailed and full of character. Carl has been a joy to work with and has been invaluable in the way he has listened to my ideas and turned my terrible drawings into the exact dream locations I originally imagined” Daniel Lin – Author.

Carl lives with his History teacher wife, dog and cat. When he is not working, he enjoys walking and the outdoors, and he loves hiking up mountains and exploring.

He also loves coffee, sci-fi and chocolate, preferably all at the same time!
