Marketing

This might come as a surprise, but books do not sell themselves. In fact, selling a book is hard work and this is something you need to plan for as soon as possible into the writing/publishing process. You need to have a plan in place and be prepared to work at implementing that plan. Scary isn't it?

The other thing you need to remember is that as an author, you become a small business (or a big one, depending on your success). As a business, you are a brand and need to promote your brand, so it's not always about promoting your book/s.

So, below are some ideas you can implement as part of your overall marketing strategy. You can do these independently or we can make this as part of your overall agreement. Depending on the publishing deal we work together on, there may be costs involved but we will find the best way forward for you, your book and your budget. I always do a certain amount of promotion for each of my books, no matter the deal, but you are going to need to keep up with the marketing.

The big thing to remember is that it does not happen overnight, so it's perfectly fine for you to build your marketing up in steps - DO NOT become overwhelmed with it all!

I've put some ideas together in a document which you can download here...
