About Purple Parrot

Hi!

I'm Viv Ainslie, aka the 'Purple Parrot'. 

I've worked as an editor and proofreader in the publishing industry for over 20 years. Having left the world of big business and local authority, I set out on my own and now work with a variety of authors on different projects. 

The world of publishing can be hard to access and confusing. So, the Purple Parrot has taken flight to offer bespoke publishing services to help authors realise their dream of publishing their work. By providing a simple, accessible service, I will ensure you enjoy the process of becoming a published author. 

You will find that I do a lot of the work myself but I do have some great people on hand for some of the tasks that I just cannot do, such as proofreading – it is nigh on impossible for me to proofread something I've been editing for months. I also do not do art, at least not art you would want in your book (but I never say never)! I will create typography, layout and a cover as part of your bespoke package, and I will go that extra mile for you. If you work with me you become family, and you will be vital to the health and well-being of all the books in our cage. I will ask you to connect with others in our family and support their projects as they will yours. I do not want to become known as a 'vanity press'. I will work ridiculous hours if that's what it takes to make sure you are happy with your book. 

Other things you need to know are that I:

• am slightly bonkers and quirky (understatement according to some but goes with the territory)
• have a wicked sense of humour and a mad (dirty) laugh
• am a dog lover – you will see Buster at some point
• have a spooky side. I'm not saying it was aliens...
• sneeze loudly 
• read books, lots of books and I'd like to read yours 
• love odd words
• have the necessary patience, determination and professionalism (stubbornness) to ensure your work develops into a published book to be proud of
• drink gin. To be fair, I don't get out much, so I deserve gin
